
Drug and substance abuse is a scourge that is ravaging the youth in Zimbabwe, this menace is the among the many causes of crime, gender-based violence and suicide in society. Putting an end to this malpractice has become the Zimbabwean government’s major thrust and all efforts are being directed to fighting the against drug abuse.
The Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board (ZNBWCB) has taken a firm stance against abuse of drugs and illicit substances and has vowed to make sure that the future of young people in Zimbabwe is secured. This has been done through various means but the most notable one was is through National Clean Up Campaign.
The ZNBWCB along with other partners which included Environmental Management Authority and Fitness Against Drugs and Cancer Awareness Campaign came together for a National clean-up Campaign initiated by his Excellency President E.D Mnangagwa on the first Friday of every month. Cleaning began at the Townhouse in Harare’s CBD on the 6th of September. The main objective of the campaign was not only to promote a hygienic and clean country but also to advocate on the issue of drug abuse.
Coach Ali Phiri, a boxing coach at Otto Boxing Club highlighted how he was excited to be part of the event and to be able to contribute to the development of society and the nation through combat sport.
“I feel proud to be part of such a campaign, l got the opportunity to fight drug and substance abuse while keeping my city clean at the same time”, said Phiri
